Quail & Native Grass Habitat Workshop:
"Cash and Conservation for Louisiana"

July 26, 2008 — Maurice E. Edmonds Livestock Arena — Highway 61N Baker, LA

Habitat destruction has caused the bobwhite quail to near extinction in the state of Louisiana. Researchers at the Southern University Ag Center are finding that the solution is in our own back yard: habitat restoration. By increasing the numbers of native grass seed producers in Louisiana, the bobwhite quail would return to the state as a historical environmental element. This one-day workshop, "Cash for Conservation in Louisiana," will present information on how Louisiana landowners can receive cash benefits for quail conservation and native grass production.

Participants will also learn how to:
- transform land into a conservation reserve or land leasing area for quail
- start a quail production operation or agrotourism site.

At this workshop, participants will learn quail production, quail habitat restoration, native grassland production, and methods of increasing income through quail environmental incentive programs. Participants are encouraged to attend, share views, share concerns, and share personal priorities at the quail/native grass professionals meet and greet! Lunch will be provided!
