Southern University Ag Center Sponsors 2004 Homecoming Health Fair
The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SUAREC) along with the
SU School of Nursing and SU Student Health Services is sponsoring the 2004 Homecoming Health
Fair on Friday, October 29, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., in the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union,
Cotillion Ballroom.
The health fair will bring together more than 30 local and state health agencies and
representatives and will offer participants a wide range of services, including HIV
testing, cholesterol screening, blood-glucose diabetes screening, and vision and hearing
tests.
"This health fair will enlighten the students, faculty and surrounding
community on the importance of living healthier lives, and can help raise issues as well as
decrease health disparities in the African-American community," says SUAREC Health Specialist
Shantell Jones. "Many people are walking around with health problems they don't even know
they have. This health fair brings together several of the top health agencies in this city
and will provide screenings and tests that can ultimately help save someone's life."
Health agencies participating in the health fair include: Earl K. Long, LSU
Health Sciences Center, American Cancer Society, Louisiana Lupus Foundation, Susan G. Komen
Breast Cancer Foundation, Metro Health, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, LSU AgCenter,
and Eastside Community Center, and many others
