BATON ROUGE--With rabbits in hand, more than 250 youth from across the state will travel here early next month for the Southern University
Agricultural Research and Extension Center’s 35th Annual State and National Rabbit Show.
"This event is one of Center’s premiere programs where we teach leadership skills, character development, and entrepreneurship skills to the
youth who prepare year round for this competition," says interim livestock show director Christie Monroe.
The Show will be held Saturday, December 2, 2006, at the Maurice A. Edmond Livestock Show Arena in Baker, Louisiana.
The Ag Center’s Rabbit Show is the largest in the state with competitions in 16 sanctioned rabbit breeds. Participants are school-aged youth
who represent Future Farmers of America chapters, 4-H Clubs, and other youth groups. Friday, November 24, 2006, is the deadline to register
rabbit entries. Registration and a $3.00 entry fee are required.
Awards will be presented to youth exhibitors for: Champion Pen, Res Champion, Best of Breed, Best Opposite Breed, Best of Best Opposite, Second
and First Runner-up in Show, Best in Show, and Third, Fourth and Fifth Place Pen.
The Rabbit Show is sanctioned by the American Rabbit Breeders Association and is co-sponsored by the Louisiana Rabbit Breeders Association. The
show is free and open to the public.
