State Soil Event Comes to Baton Rouge
Future farmers from across the state are gearing up for the 45th Annual Louisiana FFA Soil Judging Career Development Event (CDE) taking
place Wednesday, November 15, at the Southern University Ag Center’s M. A. Edmond Livestock Arena. Registration will begin at 8 AM with
opening ceremonies beginning at 9 AM.
The Soil Judging CDE is an educational event designed to help students learn about and evaluate the properties and uses of soils collected
in the state. Students learn the differences in soils and their capabilities, treatments to obtain production, and methods to conserve and
improve soil.
This field experience in soil judging, helps students identify characteristics that are evaluated in order to allow logical decision to be
made. By participating in the event, students learn how to make better decisions regarding the best use and management of our soil resources.
Buses will be available to transport students to and from sites. Each chapter will be assessed $15.00 to defray the cost of these buses and
event expenses. Registration forms are available online at www.suagcenter.com.
The M.A. Edmond Arena is located on the Southern University Experimental Farm along Scenic Highway (U.S. Highway 61) north of Southern's main
campus.
