Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center

The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center is the land-grant division of the Southern University System, which combines the resources of federal, state, and local governments and the resources of the entire University in a comprehensive approach to help confront and work towards solving local and community problems of the citizens of Louisiana who have limited social and Ashford O. Williams Hall economic resources. Our two-fold mission is to conduct basic and applied research and to disseminate results to citizens of the state of Louisiana, with particular emphasis on socially, economically and educationally disadvantaged groups.

Our committed specialists, field agents, researchers, and staff provide leadership and expertise in areas of Agricultural and Natural Resources; Family and Consumer Sciences; Diet, Nutrition and Health Education; Livestock and Poultry; Youth Development; and Community and Economic Development. We are dedicated to our main objective of “Linking Citizens of Louisiana with Opportunities for Success.

Third Annual Meat Raffle &
The 61st Annual State Livestock and Poultry Show

The Southern University Ag Center Livestock Show Office is proud to announce the 61st Annual State Livestock and Poultry Show to be held March 11-13 at the M.A. Edmond Livestock Arena in Baton Rouge, LA. The Livestock Show provides an excellent opportunity for the citizens and youth of Louisiana to exhibit their prize livestock, while enhancing responsibility and leadership skills.

Southern University is the only Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to currently hold an event of this magnitude; therefore, in celebration of this event, the Ag Center is sponsoring a daily meat raffle.

A conference participant will be randomly selected each day of the conference, to receive their choice of lamb, pork, goat or beef meat. The meat will be packaged and delivered to the lucky winner! All interested participants must fill out the entry form at the registration table to be eligible for the drawing.
For additional information about the Livestock Show or to purchase meat, contact James Archie at (225) 771-2242,
ext. 330.
*Deliveries will only be made to Louisiana residents due to food safety/delivery purposes.
