Youth Development

Programs in youth development give young people a chance to learn new skills, gain self-confidence and contribute to their communities. SUARECís youth development endeavors are aimed toward preparing youth to meet the challenges of childhood, adolescence and adulthood, by providing continuous strategic education experiences that enhance life skills and develop social, emotional, physical and mental strengths.

Louisianaís youth face many influences that impact their decision making skills including: drugs, alcohol and peer pressure, and other problematic issues that can influence their life outcomes. Youth Development programs at SUAREC collaborate with schools and communities to deliver leadership and educational skills to encourage youth to make healthy lifestyle choices in order to maximize their potential.

SUARECís youth programs focus on:

  • Life skills development
  • Agriculture career exploration
  • Decision making
  • Financial planning
  • Leadership
  • Team building
  • Community service
  • Critical thinking

These activities help prepare young people to meet and excel in competitive environments. Furthermore, our efforts inspire many of our youth participants to discover and pursue academic discipline and careers in agricultural related fields.

Ongoing youth programs/ activities include :

  • YES After School Program
