1890 Universities Foundation President Dr. Felecia Nave visits the SU Ag Center and the College of Ag

Dr. Felecia Nave, President and Chief Executive Officer of the 1890 Universities Foundation, visited the Southern University Ag Center and the College of Agricultural, Human and Environmental Sciences (CAHES) on March 19, 2026.

The visit was part of Dr. Nave’s tour of the 19 land-grant institutions.

During the visit, she toured facilities, met with the leadership, faculty, and staff from the teaching, Extension, and Research areas. The visit included stops at the Southern University Child Development Laboratory, Dietetic Internship Program, the 1890 Center of Excellence for Nutrition, Health and Quality of Life, the JagFresh Farmers Market, mobile units, the demonstration farm and garden, quilt and sewing labs, and the Ag Center’s vineyard.

Dr. Nave also had the opportunity to learn about the SU Ag Center’s beef research including the Southern University Natural (SUN) Beef “Smart Ranching” innovation, the use of  drone technology in agriculture and how the SU Ag Center is encouraging students to enter the field of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art/Agriculture, and Mathematics) through its Youth Precision Drone ‘Agcademy’.

Dr. Nave has served in her current position since October 1, 2025. In this role, she provides strategic direction for the Foundation, leading efforts in organizational growth, fundraising, federal and private-sector engagement, and program development.

Prior to joining the Foundation Dr. Nave served in several distinguished roles throughout her career including serving as the Division Director for the Division of Equity for Excellence in STEM within the Directorate for STEM Education at the National Science Foundation, President of Alcorn State University, Provost and Vice Chancellor at North Carolina Central University, and Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs at Prairie View A&M University.

The 1890 Universities Foundation was founded in2016 and is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to advancing the core land-grant missions of teaching, research, and extension at 1890 universities.
