SU Ag Center and the College of Ag set to hold a slate of events to celebrate Homecoming Week 2025

Baton Rouge, La. – The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SU Ag Center) and the College of Agricultural, Human and Environmental Sciences (CAHES) will hold several activities for students, employees, and alumni during Oct. 13 – 18 to celebrate Homecoming Week 2025.

Activities will begin with the Café Lacumba Meal Preparation/ Campus Food Pantry Stocking and the Morrill Society Induction on Oct. 13. The meal preparation/food pantry stocking will be held in Pinkie Thrift Hall, room 161 from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. to address the growing problem of food insecurity on college campuses. The Induction Ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Matthews Center for Innovation. This invitation only event will install the newest members of the Morrill Society.

The “Mind Your MANNRS” student workshop, Lacumba’s Nutrition Clinic, and Better You at SU Nutrition Class will be held on Oct. 14. The MANNRS workshop will begin at 11 a.m. in Pinkie Thrift Hall and is open to all SUBR students. The nutrition clinic will be held at 11 a.m. in room 154 of Pinkie Thrift Hall and offers personalized nutrition counseling, healthy eating workshops, and practical tips to help faculty, staff, and students feel their best, both in and out of the classroom. The nutrition class will begin at 5 p.m. in the Horace W. Moody Intramural Sports Complex. During the class, SU Dietetic Interns will provide free nutrition information on the topics of nutrition basics, energy needs, hydration, smart snacking, meal prepping, food label reading, and SMART goals.  

Staff from the SU Ag Center will participate in the Southern University Student Health Center’s Annual Homecoming Health Fair on Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. in the Smith-Brown Memorial Union.

The JagFresh Farmers Market and the Chancellor-Dean's Coffee Chat will be held on Oct. 16. The farmers market will be held from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in front of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union and will provide a venue for the Southern University community to purchase locally grown fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat, homemade jellies, and other products from local farmers and vendors.

SU Ag students are invited to chat with the Chancellor-Dean during the coffee chat. This Ag student only event will be held from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the lobby of Pinkie Thrift Hall.

The 4th Annual “Vino on the Bluff Scholarship Fundraiser,” will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the Leon R. Tarver II Cultural and Heritage Center, at 8320 G. Leon Netterville Dr., on the Southern University campus. Tickets are $75 and will include curated wine and whiskey tastings, farm-to-table inspired food, a silent auction, live entertainment, VIP experiences, and much more!

Funds from the wine tasting will be used to raise scholarship dollars for the Darjean Jones Wines Continuing Education Scholarship Fund for students enrolled in CAHES. To purchase tickets or to make a donation visit, https://foundation.sus.edu/vino-on-the-bluff/.      

Activities will conclude on Oct. 18 with a “Homecoming Tailgate,” from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. on the lawn of Fisher Hall before the 2025 SU Homecoming Football Game against Prairie View A&M University at 4 p.m. in A.W. Mumford Stadium.
