Congratulations to the Spring Class of 2022

More than 550 students received their degrees on May 13, 2022 during Southern University's Spring Commencement at the F. G. Clark Activity Center. 

Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America, served as the commencement speaker.

Babineaux-Fontenot, who was named one of Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2020, oversees the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization and second-largest U.S. charity according to Forbes. Through a network of more than 200 food banks, 21 statewide food bank associations, and over 60,000 partner agencies, food pantries, and meal programs, Feeding America helped provide

6.6 billion meals to tens of millions of people in need last year, while supporting programs that prevent food waste and improve food security. 

Babineaux-Fontenot holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette; a Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.; and a Master of Laws in Taxation from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in Dallas, Texas.
