SU Ag Center set to host Vino on the Bluff Scholarship Wine Tasting Fundraiser

Baton Rouge, La. – The Southern University Ag Center and the College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences (CAFCS) will host the Vino on the Bluff Wine Tasting Fundraiser at 5 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2022 at the Valdry Center for Philanthropy, 598 Harding Blvd., in Baton Rouge, La.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased online at https://foundation.sus.edu/wine-tasting/.

Funds from the wine tasting will be used to raise scholarship dollars for the Darjean Jones Wines Continuing Education Scholarship Fund for students in the Southern University College of Agricultural, Family and Consumer Sciences.

Darjean Jones Wines is owned by Louisiana native, first-generation African-American winemaker, and Southern University CAFCS alumni, Dawna Darjean Jones, Ph.D. and her husband Chauncey. Dawna’s early winemaking journey began in Napa Valley where she was working as a plant pathologist studying the diseases of wine grapes.

“Experiencing Napa Valley first as a research scientist helped to formulate my deep respect and appreciation for vineyards and the abundant wealth of grape varieties sown on those diverse soils,” said Dawna. “Although my focus in the early years was on the plant diseases that affected wine grapes, I later developed a new kinship with winemaking,” she added.

The award-winning wine is available online at www.darjeanjones.com.
