SU Ag Center and the College of Ag to hold 2023 Ag Career Cluster Activities

Baton Rouge, La. – The Southern University Ag Center and the College of Agricultural, Human and Environmental Sciences (CAHES) will hold several activities during its 2023 Ag Career Cluster beginning Oct. 9 – Oct. 14, 2023 on the Southern University campus.

 

Activities will begin at 1 p.m. on Oct. 9 with the “Clearing the Smoke,” SU Cannabis Chronicles Brunch and Learn for SU students. The event, which will be held in the Cotillion Ballroom of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union, will focus on careers in the cannabis industry and provide students with information on the development of the CAHES’s minor in Cannabis Sciences in the Ag Sciences program.

 

Panelists for the event will include Brandon DeBoer, Director of Cultivation; Ramon Richardson, Cultivation Manager; Jere Williams, Processing Manager; Pamela Wiltz, Marketing and Sales Director, and Theodoris Thyssen, Facilities and Construction.

 

The “Mind Your MANNRS Wear and Share Workshop,” will be held on Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. – 12:20 p.m. in room 108 of Pinkie Thrift Hall. The event will provide students in the CAHES with the knowledge and skills to present themselves professionally and create standout resumes for the upcoming career fair.

Members of the Southern University Ag Center will participate in the Student Health Center’s Annual Homecoming Health Fair on Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Smith-Brown Memorial Union.

The “Ag Career Expo,” will be held on Oct. 12 at 9:30 a.m. in the Seymour Gym. Students will have an opportunity to speak with more than 25 exhibitors during the career fair-style event. Key sponsors are Mosaic, Weyerhaeuser Company, USDA-Forest Service, Zen-Noh Grain Corporation, and Consolidated Grain and Barge.

Members of the SU Ag Center will participate in the Health is Wealth Community Festival on Oct. 12 from 5 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Lawless Auditorium inside W.W. Steward Hall on the SU campus.

The “Alumni and Industry Networking,” event will be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 13 on the lawn of Fisher Hall.

The 2nd Annual “Vino on the Bluff Scholarship Fundraiser,” will be held at 5 p.m. at the Southern University Cultural and Heritage Center, located at G. Leon Netterville Dr. on the Southern University campus. General 

admission tickets are $75. Elevated (VIP) tickets are $85 and will include an Artini cocktail and art exhibit walk

through the Southern University Museum of Art (SUMA).

The event will also include a silent auction, farm-to-table inspired food, live entertainment, door prizes, and much more! Funds from the wine tasting will be used to raise scholarship dollars for the Darjean Jones Wines Continuing Education Scholarship Fund for students enrolled in CAHES. Activities will conclude on Oct. 14 with an “Industry Cluster Networking Brunch,” at 10:30 a.m. on the lawn of Fisher Hall before the 2023 SU Homecoming Football Game.
