SU Ag Center set to host JAGRIFest Health Fair for SU students

Baton Rouge, La. – The 1890 Center of Excellence for Nutrition, Health, Wellness and Quality of Life (NHWQL), housed in the Southern University Ag Center, and the JAGFresh Farmers Market will host JAGrifest, a back-to-school health fair for Southern University students.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on August 21, 2024, on the lawn of Pinkie Thrift Hall and include

a farmers’ market, vendor booths, health screenings, food, games, and an obstacle course.

“The JAGrifest health fair is designed to enrich health, well-being, and quality of life through a variety of resources and guidance on nutrition and healthy eating,” said Brittany Howard, Program Coordinator for NHWQL. “We aim to educate students on the importance of diet in maintaining health, preventing illness, and fostering overall well-being. Interactive booths will promote mental health awareness, physical activity, and access to resources to enhance students’ overall quality of life.”

The event aims to create a community atmosphere where students can engage with healthcare providers, explore local resources, and discuss ways to make healthy lifestyle choices.

“JAGrifest will also emphasize the connection between events like the JAGFresh Farmers Market and health fairs, we're organizing a collaborative event that encourages healthy eating, supports local agriculture, and equips attendees with tools for improving their dietary habits,” added Howard. “Our goal is to empower individuals to make informed decisions that positively impact their health and quality of life,” she expressed.

The event is free and open to all Southern University students, but registration is required. To register visit, https://bit.ly/46OOFtB.
