SU Ag Center and College of Ag set to hold Ag Week Nov. 4 – 9, 2024

Baton Rouge, La. – The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SU Ag Center) and the College of Agricultural, Human and Environmental Sciences (CAHES) have partnered with SU Athletics to host an Ag Game on Nov. 9 against Bethune-Cookman College in A.W. Mumford Stadium. The campus has planned a week of events for the community and agriculture students leading up to the game.

Festivities will kick off on Nov. 4 with Jagie’s Research Rampage: A Social Media Adventure, which will highlight some of the Ag Center’s research projects, will be held throughout the day on the SU Ag Center’s social media platforms.

The College of Ag’s Hometown Cuisine Cookoff will be held on Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. in the lobby of Pinkie Thrift Hall. CAHES students and faculty will compete for bragging rights to see who can cook the best hometown dish.

Pretty Ag Wednesday with the Rho Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. will be held at noon on Nov. 6 in the courtyard of the Smith-Brown Memorial Union. This fundraising event will feature food, crafts, and plants created and grown by the CAHES student organizations and the Plant Production class.

The Vet on Wheels: Free Animal Clinic with the LSU Community Outreach Mobile Unit will also be held on Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. on the lawn of Fisher Hall. The free vaccine clinic will provide cats and dogs with the core vaccines including the rabies vaccine. Animals must be on a leash or in a kennel.

A Brunch & Learn Student Forum will be held on Nov. 7 beginning at 11 a.m. in the Leon R. Tarver II Cultural and Heritage Center. The forum will provide students enrolled in the CAHES with an opportunity to network and engage with USDA officials during a brunch, along with an informative panel discussion.

A Produce Giveaway will also be held on Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 1565 Curtis Street in Baton Rouge. This event is free and open to the community while supplies last.

Play the Ag Way and the Ag Week “Swag Giveaway” will be held on Nov. 8 at noon on the lawn of Fisher Hall and in the Fisher Hall lobby, respectively.

The SU Ag Center and the College of Ag will host a Field to Fork Tailgate from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the game day experience lot of the A. W. Mumford Stadium Fieldhouse. Registration is recommended. To register visit,  https://www.suagcenter.com/form/1051.

The Southern Jaguars will face off against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats at 2 p.m. on Nov. 9.
